Review: Jean//Phillip AW12

It was a continuation and further development of the last collection, Jean//Phillips bids for Fall fashion. Thus, it was still an exploration of samurai warriors and the ancient Japanese lines. Under the title The Arcane Aftermath The Location was shinning, in a frosty morning, which was the setting for the show.
And it started out terrific. Like the dark designers use of color is this fair to say hold your hat, for after the first gray input came - hold your hat - light blue. It had not been seen to come from Jean//Phillip, huh?

Refreshingly light
First, it was refreshing with a bit of bright color from the designer - it is unlikely clad clothes well and made it easier, less obscure and more ... delicate? The delicate set against the masculine went up into a higher unity, which for a long jumper with hood that flowed on the model. It came also in an excellent and more raw version in black, but blue won the title.
The inspiration is - like in the last collection - quite subtle, and should probably be viewed more as an overall rank for the designer. In a pair of gray high-waisted pants with drawstring at side the reference was clear.

Darker part
After opening on the bright side of the collection followed a darker portion of dusty gray. Frayed edges of jackets and blouses of washed linen, thin jersey, cashmere and washed lamb leather went back from the bright to the dark, but seemed quite different diverst in black than in delicate blue. But there is a red wire and Jean//Phillips DNA is intact - the materials and the expression is, like the oxidized zippers are a signature. Chewing on jackets and with the opportunity both to zip up and down simultaneously on blouses.
Two bags were introduced, covered with swakara-fur, and this marked the transition to the designer's two fur coats, also in swakara that ended the show. A close-fitting coat with slanted zipper and a light coloring on the shoulders was beautiful, just as the show's last - a blazer with dark gray swakara with light stripes and dark leather sleeves. Skillfully designed and a great way to work with fur - a relief to see men's coat, that was heavy in Swakara.

Adulthood
Points for it, and well set - because you could easily see them hang in an expensive boutique in Paris along with the rest of the collection - and be purchased. It was grown, which highlighted the models' hair roots, which were colored gray. Show aesthetics, perhaps, but also a good indication that it has become more mature.
The use of colors and coat also marked this in a collection that gracefully swept to the top as one of the designer's best, with the opening and ending of the show as highlights. The development continues then in a positive direction and indicates that Jean//Phillip in increasingly have designed toward an audience that can embrace the brand and lift it to a larger sale.

My Fashion Week: Jean / / phillip

As a prelude to Copenhagen Fashion Week, the 1st to 4rd of February, we´ve asked some of fashion's players to share their best fashion week tips.

First in line is the designer Jean Phillip that produces raw unisex collections that are equal parts raw and athletic and always with a perfect finish.

What should you do during fashion week?
"During the Danish Fashion Week it is definitely my own show which is the most important thing for me and then comes everything else secondary. Most sales of the collection takes place during men's fashion week in Paris just before fashion week in Copenhagen and from our showroom in Larsbjørnsstræde. You can probably always squeeze a little cocktail down or two? I take a little partying as it comes, but usually I don´t desire to be there so often prefer to work backstage in the wonderful world of fashion.

What is the best thing about the Danish fashion week?
"That it is relaxed and things are not always taken so solemn. Solemnity is fashion's cruel hand, the side I´m not so big a player on.

Why is it important to have a fashion week in Copenhagen?
"Because Denmark and the Scandinavian look has come in focus, a national fashion week, also gives the smaller companies a chance to show what they can do. It is precisely the small new brands it is fun to watch. "

What are you looking forward to most during Fashion Week?
"Stress, pressure, and adrenaline in my veins! "

“If you build it he will come” seems attuned to the Jean//phillip philosophy of fashion design.

His designs and his attitude escape the mold as he sheds little interest in exploiting the Danish nor Scandinavian look, being a Dane himself. His pieces tease men and fondle the female form with their contours.

As a menswear staple, he caters to layers and wraps as warmth is a look you can’t neglect in Nordic style. His Spring 2011 collection abolished symmetry entirely leaving models looking bandaged, almost sacredly adorned with a middle eastern flair. His Spring/Summer 2012 collection revisits this look of luxury rags, a clean cut man at a disarray with his wardrobe. Combining tailored black wool shorts with elongated T-shirts, Jean//phillip exaggerates distressed details like threads hanging from jacket tails and holes evocative of cigarette burns. Wool, jersey, coated fabrics, leather pieces and elastics all made an appearance this year during Copenhagen fashion week. This designer du jour and a, 10-year veteran of Danish design, is among the Danes best associated along the lines of a simple rebel.

His signature folds and stitching cast congruent angles upon blacks and greys. It would be a stretch to claim that fashion news increasingly covers the look of the Danes. Furniture, bikes, decor sure. Fashion? Perhaps for the off-radar profile they posses mystery and subterranean appeal. The vast, hermetic and very boreal land mass in Europe is Scandinavian fashion and they have it together. No two alike, the Nordic folk share a style different from the fashion scenes in Europe, the US and Asia. With their distinct physical features and sharp tribal demeanour, they silently compete amongst each other without bitterness and with a common alignment to useful, awkward, even outlandish design, unlike the more traditional French or Italian designs. The recent history of Scandinavian fashion traces patterns in simple wools and cashmeres, adhering to strict climate conditions. Their refined production (often of green mentality and refined technology) is constant. Garments are most commonly set apart from one another by infusing bold colours. Scandinavian design, from fashion to furniture is recognized as effortlessly luxurious as they manage to uphold cleanliness and minimalism preserving the affluent look. Their meticulous designers repeatedly deliver what outsiders may view as the essence of Northern European calibre.

This year couture glitzed near the Arctic bringing several accomplished designers to light during the Copenhagen and Stockholm fashion weeks. Swedish designer Camilla Norrback presented a classic native collection, pushing eco-luxury, and Henrik Vibskov explicitly highlighted his love for colour in his 2011 Autumn collection loudly turned up nothing short of borderless. Silas Adler, flaunted his line Soulland, pronouncing with careful detail the aesthetics of Scandinavian design with the accessory. On the Danish fashion front Annhagen, Stine Goya (partnered with Urban Outfitters, 2009), Baum und Pfergarten, David Andersen, and Malene Birger (MTV Queen of Fashion) all noteworthy. Consider these labels D-marked: Danish-approved for veering far enough off the ready-to-wear path to cozy up under high-brow Nordic fashion. These trained and talented pattern-makers and model-movers have perfected the art of buttoning up and boxing in the blondes and beaus for delicacy North of Prada and Dior.

Then there is Jean//phillip. His work evolves uncategorically as he passively breaks the rules, pouring his ideas out of the closet in an untitled manner. Meet Jean//phillip.

Talk Tuesday: Another Serving Of Jean//phillip Please?

Most women who attend a menswear fashion show, can’t help but adore the male models that worked the runways. Looking at the clothes, critiquing, picking top-sellers for the next season, are all part of the job, but the good-looking, toned, tall men, those are the perks. It’s ok to nod your heads in agreement with me, ladies and gentlemen ( I don’t judge), you’re only human.

Yet, at the Jean//phillip S/S ’12 show in Copenhagen last month, I found myself getting excited for the hoodie with the zipper detail, the high waisted shorts, the lose cardigan, and the jacket with the leather panels that had my name all over it. Ok, it might of been for my own selfish reasons that I paid so much attention to the collection that was composed of mostly black garments, but Jean//phillip succeeded in keeping me focused on the clothes and not the men.

His spring/summer fashion show was the first time I got a chance to see Jean/phillip’s pieces and I was all smiles at the conclusion of it. A menswear designer had me wanting garments meant for the guys, on my own body, ohh he did good! I reached out to the designer who models his clothes better than the models themselves, for an interview.

When and how did fashion come into your life?
It´s always been there but didn’t really interest me until later in my life. I wanted to be an animator, and got in to one of the best schools in the world, but found out, quite quickly, that it wasn’t me. From that day a fashion tale blossomed, as I had always known that it was gonna be one of the two.

What was the first piece created for your label, Jean Phillip?
A black sequins hoodie handmade.

What designers do you admire that are past, present and/or legendary?
It would be easy to say McQueen as he is now all of the above, and it pains me to say that, but the man was and will forever be a genius and fountain of inspiration. Of the present Hussein Chalayan is no exception a master to me.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Its very different from season what the inspiration takes form through. This season, it was inspiration through pictures of the Japanese Samurai history, pictures and films were the references.

Jean Phillip the label has been around for how many years now?
Four years

Were there any mistakes made in the beginning that has made you stronger and wiser about what you do with your business now? Do you mind sharing one that will hopefully help others avoid the same mistakes?
Of course you make mistakes that make you stronger, and they have to be there in order to make you move on, All I can say is don’t swallow more than you can chew, one step at a time.

I could see myself wearing several of your garments, even though the collections are for men. Some of my friends have also wanted to covet some of your pieces. Any plans on creating a women’s wear collection or making unisex pieces?
The pieces are for both men and woman to buy, as I see it you can wear whatever you want as long as you feel great in it. This is you you can get all the garments down to a size XS.

If you had the opportunity to collaborate with a designer or a brand, who would it be and why?
Rick Owens – His vision and way of seeing garments, is so unique, but most importantly he a is strong, kind, and thoughtful person.

Jean//phillip - Swakara Project

One of the annually recurring projects at Kopenhagen Fur is The Swakara project that allows two designers free rein to work with the exclusive Material.

Last season was established designers such as Anne Valerie Hash and Gaspard Yurkevich, who designed the project - but this year the choice fell on two young talents. Danish Jean-Phillip Dyeremose, the designer behind Jean//Phillip, and the Greek London-educated Eliana Dimitrakopoulou supports this year's collections. And there is a good reason, explains Michael Holm, design and product manager of Kopenhagen Fur, the FashionForum.

"Jean-Phillips strength is his style, it is very nice, tight and also incredibly relaxed. We have previously done something with him, and I think he had an incredibly good feeling for fur, "says Michael Holm.

Free borders is the designer's dream
Swakara-skins from karakullam coming from Namibia. They are some of the world's most exclusive skins, then produced only 300,000 to 400,000 of them annually. For comparison, sold 22 million. mink skins a year - in Denmark alone.

For Jean-Phillip Dyeremose it is an interesting task - again - to be allowed to work with fur.

"I think the material can be more than the eye can see, and it's exciting to be able to work with the unlimited. In this project, only my own imagination sets the limits and as a designer this is a task you cannot say no to, "he says, pointing out that it is a huge accolade for a young designer like him that allowed to participate in the project after Gaspard Yurkevich.
Jean//phillip´s Collection will consist of four styles, so it becomes, as he calls it "minimally and exclusive" and involves two bags, a big couture trench coat and a blazer.

The signature maintained
"I'll add zippers, which is my signature, but we are also working with some new techniques such as laser bleaching of the coat. I've also got hair stylist and hatter Søren Bach over to hand-color the styles, "he says and add´s that the coat will also be mixed with a little leather. As he puts it:

"After all, it is for men, and I want to tone it just a little bit down."

The project used to show what the special Swakara-skin can, and will be around the world, concludes Michael Holm.

"We make a pretty nice catalog with descriptions of the designers of swakara and what it can do. Additionally, the project is presented on fur fairs worldwide in eg Hong Kong and Milan. We use it simply for anything that has anything to do with Swakara. "

With one of the biggest international attendances at this Copenhagen fashion week so far (V magazine, Vogue usa, fantastic man, bloggermania, etc.), it was a joy to see that the young menswear designer Jean//phillip once again had developed his aesthetics and updated signature looks.

The zippers on vests, jackets, trousers and blouses were still there, but the look has been updated with a use of linen, poplin, cashmere and lamb leather. The reference was ancient Japan and the old samurai ronin, but the new Jean//phillip pieces proved anything but costumey. rather, it was quite subtle. slouchy (but still fitted) trousers, high-waisted shorts with belts, beautiful leather pants and jackets, long, flowing cardigans and various tanks, tops and some long shirts made out the collection in black, grey and white.

it takes a good designer to give an almost black collection a light feeling, but once again, Jean//phillip proved that he’s developed the craftsmanship it takes to elevate casual clothes into beautiful garments.

Review: Jean / / Phillip SS n ° 12

It was hard not to be excited after Jean//Phillips show Wednesday afternoon at City Hall. Partly because the designer (again) presented his best collection to date, partly because the heavier parts of the international press showed up - and certainly looked like Jean//Phillips Company was a waste of time.

The collection this season was inspired by ancient Japan and samurai ronin, but you did not sit with the feeling of a designer inviting to the costume party - rather, the opposite. Worked through, well designed and well executed. Black, gray and a few spots of white and nude, for example, in a nice long shirt with rounded edges.

It was subtle references that were at stake, but the use of thin canvas sat fine setting for old-time tough conditions, though without seeming heavy or gloomy. Despite the models' wet hair and glistening skin, it was rather a collection that invite to go out in the summer and feel well prepared simultaneously.

There is therefore a development in Jean//Phillips designs here, although there is still a distinct sender behind. His two signatures, the crooked zippers on jackets and vests (in both canvas and soft washed lamb leather) and the loose, flowing cardigans are still to find. There are semi-transparent black pants that are loose in the crotch, but seals in along the bone, tank tops and t-shirts and the whole menagerie, but it works well and is well-made.

Jean / / Phillip worked really well at city hall - the large room and the electronic music play nice together, and it does absolutely nothing that it takes place in broad daylight. The clothes can wear it and it shows that the designer has once again moved forward.

Jean//Phillip delivers a different product in the fashion world, and he does it well. Excellent.

FOR THE AFTER PARTY: Goldfrapp 'Head First' (2010)
"the album well enough served it´s military service, whenever it applies to the days before a show and after in my studio at st. Kongensgade, for the beginning of daylight. it is in my opinion, the worst the band has ever released, but it is so kitsch that you can not do otherwise than to get in a good mood because it has a slightly botched Diana Ross sound to it, sprinkled with extra glitter! Party on! "

ETERNAL SOURCE OF INSPIRATION: David Sylvian 'Secrets of the Beehive' (1987)
"I never get tired of that album and can always find new sound elements to it. His sound has So much strength, that being in the mood is a must, to be able listen to it, as there is so many feelings to it. I can recommend anyone who does not know him, to listen to it, but listen to 'Get the Hell Out"
David Sylvian voice is so delicious and soft that it can shake the panties of anyone."

Jean Phillip is one of those designers who's on a constant journey of growth and that gets better for each collection and season. Having not attended fashion school, Jean Phillip decided to launch his own label of monochrome but layered clothing that carries a strong identity of Nordic melancholia a while back. He tends to work in leather and coated fabrics, but this time he added broken hemlines to emphasize the independent spirit of a Samurai.

Dazed Digital: Where does your inspiration come from for this collection?Jean Phillip: The inspiration came from the south, the Samurai, and his amour and independence as a man, and I developed it in a darker though softer side of him, the way I see him...

DD: How have you grown since your last collection?Jean Phillips: The material choices have chanced for the better, more tailoring, and grown a better eye for the details in the garments. This season we have developed different washes for the garments to evolve and look, somehow worn and loved.

DD: Does CFW give you a good platform for international sales?
Jean Phillip: In some way it does, as the show gives people around the world the chance to look at my work, when they see the videos and runway pictures on the web and blogs. The sales are done in Paris during the Menswear Week, where Copenhagen is more of a media Fashion Week for us, as almost all buyers come to us in Paris.

DD: Tell me about the location and set up of the show; how do they tell the story of your collection?Jean Phillip: The location is City Hall, the centre of Copenhagen. Its big old, and beautiful building, the setup is dark, and black, and tells a story of a man who has fought his way through the night.

DD: What impact would you like to give?Jean Phillip: Look and vibe that tells people another story, tell them something new... isn't that what fashion is all about?
